General Police Department Information
December 1, 2005
The mission of the Mountain Home Police Department is to
provide effective police services to residents of our
community by enforcing federal, state, and local law in a
fair and ethical manner. Service is our only product and we
strive to provide the best. Effective policing is also
delivered by providing pro-active programs and interaction
with our citizens. Our efforts include maintaining a highly
skilled, well trained, and professional law enforcement
agency.
Services are delivered in a variety of ways. To effectively
deliver services, the police department is divided into
three divisions.
The Patrol Division is responsible for traffic, criminal
code, and city ordinance enforcement. The division also
handles complaints of all types and makes referrals when
needed. The K-9 Unit, Special Response Team, and
Breathalyzer Operations are a part of the patrol division.
The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the
investigations of criminal activity. Investigations include
cases of crimes against people, property, and society. The
police department is a member of the 14th
Judicial Drug Task Force.
The Support Services Division is responsible for
communications, community oriented policing, crime
prevention, and administration. Communications handles
routine and 911 calls requiring police, fire, and medical
responses. They are responsible for inquires and entries
into the Arkansas Crime Information Center. Administration
maintains arrest records, bonds, warrants, fingerprinting,
and animal licensing. Additional duties include in-house
record keeping, tracking statistical reports, invoice and
purchase order processing, and preparing correspondence.
The Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) Officer and
the School Resource Officer (SRO) Program are a part of the
Support Services Division. The COPS officer is responsible
for developing and delivering pro-active, community policing
programs. The SRO Program is a major pro-active effort in
helping our local school system provide a safe learning
environment for our students. Additionally, the SRO provides
educational programs and assists the faculty and students as
needed.
To deliver services effectively,
proper training is a must. Training is a priority and the
department utilizes federal, state, and local entities for
cost effective training services. The police department uses
in-house certified instructors to deliver monthly training
topics. We rely heavily on the National Center for Missing
and Exploited Children, located in Alexandria, Virginia, for
training and guidance on youth issues in our SRO Program.
The Arkansas Law Enforcement Training Academy and the
Criminal Justice Institute continue to be an important
source for meeting our training needs. The federal
government provides training on drug investigations by
utilizing Ft. Leonard, Missouri as a training center for
federal, state, and local law enforcement officials. Our
department attended several drug courses at this training
center during the last several years.
Employees of the police department will continue striving to
make our service better. The police department would like to
take this opportunity to thank our city government and
community for all their support.
